Spring 2008 Meeting Notes
Maura Power, representing the Marblehead Racing Association, gave a report. The outside line will have the IODs and the Etchells only- see racing schedule under racing tab. She asked for comments for the race committee. It was voted to ask them to have three shorter races if possible. They were also asked to finish the last race towards the harbor if the air is very light. The ultimate decision as to number of races, length of course and where to finish will be up to the race committee who does a great job and who we deeply thank for spending countless hours for our enjoyment. After much discussion it was voted to have Marblehead Race week ( 3 days) Friday, Saturday & Sunday to encourage out of Town boats to attend. We will, however, have a race on Thursday which will have a separate trophy. All races will count towards the hastings.
Sted Beckwith gave a report on efforts to recruit crew to our website sign up, and efforts to get new boats in the fleet. Planned for this year are two sided color post cards and business cards to post and hand out to all intrested parties. There is a lot of willing and experienced people on our crew list. Use them a much as possible and call or email them as far in advance as possible. It was decided to have Etchells compete in a Wednesday night regatta and to invite those on the crew list and interested Etchells buyers to sail.
Mark Toso talked about using the old Coast Guard station on Salem harbor for use for use by dry sailors. The property is being improved and a lift is being installed. This location is mainly being set up to get more kids into sailing, which we should all support. Boat storage will help offset costs.
Michael Jobin was appointed to head a committee to look into the possibility of Fleet 4 holding a sanctioned event next year- The New Englands or Atlantic Coast Cjhampionship. They are also going to look into the possibility of holding the North Americans in 2011.
Bob Myer was appointed First Officer to serv on the executive committee.
